Andrew Blamire is Dean of the Translational and Clinical Research Institute and Professor of Magnetic Resonance Physics at Newcastle University. His research career spans nearly 40 years developing, applying and evaluating novel imaging techniques to measure tissue metabolism, structure and function. He has extensively studied both the brain and the wider body systems where he has coordinated the EU BIOIMAGE-NMD programme developing tools to study muscle microstructure in muscular dystrophies, led the imaging sub-study in the EU TIRCON consortia and continues as the imaging co-lead for the Clinical Outcome Study in Dysferlinopathy as it enters its 13th year. His current research is developing tools to image motor unit activity and morphology in both health and diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy and motor neuron disease.
